From May 7th till August 31st the Caffè Florian hosts the 13th edition of “Temporanea – The possible realities of Caffè Florian” with the art exhibition “So, we’ll go no more a roving” by the international renowned Chinese artist Qiu Zhijie.
The work is a tribute to Venice and to the many celebrities who attended, during the centuries, the Caffé opened in 1720 by Floriano Francesconi.
Every two years, Temporanea is an exhibition linked to the Venice Biennale: an artist is invited to set up a display in one room or another of the Florian. Each one of these artists, in the last twenty tears, demonstrated in his own way how two artistic realities could meet – or clash – in this historical décor.
The work of the artist Qiu Zhijie is a tribute to Venice and to the many celebrities who attended, during the centuries, the Serenissima and the Caffè opened in 1720 by Floriano Francesconi. The artist will turn the Chinese Room in a “hall of mirrors” in which, as in a game of reflections, there will be phrases of famous Florian’s customers (Byron, Hemingway) written in reverse as Leonardo used to do. But not only the Chinese room will be involved but also the entire Florian’s rooms: famous reverse writing quotes will appear on all the large mirrors of the rooms of Florian. Even outer space in Piazza San Marco will be involved: 99 tables will be turned into “mirror tables” on which famous aphorisms will be engraved. A kind of homage that the artist has dedicated to Venice, which reflects magically itself in the waters of the lagoon.
